The Coast

No trip to Oregon is complete without a visit to the coast. We usually go camping at the beach for a few days but since several of us had small babies this summer we opted for a day trip instead.

You never know what kind of day you'll get at the beach. At my parent's house (one hour inland) the weather was a balmy 97 degrees. So we escaped the heat and thought we'd have a pleasantly warm day at the beach. It was actually almost cold on the coast. The wind was crazy go wild too. We didn't even bother dipping our toes in the icy water. Here are some of the things we did to amuse ourselves:

King of the Mountain- the mountain was already here so we enjoyed using it.

Burying Eachother- Caden was up first

Getting buried was fun, but burying Dad was so much better!

Cooing at Babies

More burying in the sand

Building Sand Castles

I'm pretty sure this is the most elaborate sand castle we've ever built. We had all the right tools. If you look close at that big hill behind us you can see people on it. They would climb up it and ride down the sand on boards (like snowboarding only on sand).

The final touch to a trip to the coast is a visit to the Tillamook Cheese Factory. As soon as you walk in the door you the smell of fresh cooking waffle cones greets your nose. It's heaven, so much better than baskin robins and perhaps more flavors of ice cream too. Oh yeah, and the cheese is good too. We always buy a bag of squeaky cheese and an ice cream cone.

This cow is mooing.
