Yesterday was the first day of joy school for Caden. Brecken gets to participate when we have it at our house but won't officially start until next year since he's still only two years old.
It was really bright out so they had a hard time keeping their eyes open.
We had such a fun time. I'm excited about how much and how well they are learning this year. They participated and actually sat and listened when they were supposed to. We started working on letters: upper case, lower case, writing them, and knowing their sounds. My goal is to have Caden reading by the end of the school year.
At the beginning of school we sing a welcome song, do the calendar, weather, helper jobs, and pledge of allegiance, and put their pictures up on the joy school house (like taking roll). We were putting up the pictures and Brecken asked where his was. Last year he didn't even notice. I told him I didn't have one for him and he started crying unconsolably. So, I had to run downstairs and find his picture real quick.
I told the kids to sing the welcome song again while I ran to get Brecken's picture. I could hear Caden say, "OK, I'm the teacher." Then I heard him sing, "Natalie will you stand up and let us see your smile...". I was so impressed with his leadership skills. He kept the ball rolling for the minute it took me to get the picture and run back up stairs.
We also made letters with their bodies. I originally just took the pics so the kids could see what the letters they made looked like. They really loved this activity and wanted to do it again and again. Since I had the pics I thought I'd put them up. So cute.
