I have to admit I LOVE having a garden. We are certainly reaping the rewards from it now (and for the last couple of months). On Sunday I made a roast and the potatoes, carrots, and onions were all from our garden! It's kind of reassuring to me that if we have some kind of big disaster, I could still grow a garden and feed my family. I even learned how to harvest seeds from it so I don't have buy them from the store.
I wasn't sure how the carrots would come out. This was our first time growing our own carrots. I pulled this little guy from the back where the grasshoppers had eaten the tops off of them:
Seeing how little that was, I wasn't expecting to get very big carrots. Then I pulled this monster out. I couldn't believe how huge it was. The boys and I ran inside to webcam with Dad and show him our freakishly large carrot.
The picture really doesn't do it justice. In this one you can see that the carrot is larger than the zucchini. This picture shows one of our first harvests. We used the tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos to make salsa!
