This is actually Part II of Brecken' s birthday. We had his presents in the morning and then we told the boys there was a big surprise coming later that night. I loved keeping it secret! We usually tell them what our plans are so they can have fun anticipating it.
We loaded the kids up in the car after dinner and drove away into the night. The boys were pretty tired (It was about 7:30pm) and both fell asleep. When they woke up we were up in a dark and cold canyon in the middle of nowhere. They have such trust in us. We walked over to the little park and I picked up the tickets, but didn't show the boys.
Here are the boys waiting for ??? The cuties didn't even know what we were standing around waiting for. About ten minutes later we heard a train whistle and saw it pulling up. The boys looked at us with big round eyes and asked if they were actually getting to ride on a train.
This is what the Heber Creeper looked like all decked out for the Haunted Hollow.
Caden handing his ticket to the conductor. He couldn't believe it still. Brecken was a little apprehensive about the whole thing so I gave the conductor his ticket.
We were so glad we got to ride on an enclosed car. It was freezing outside and Brecken wasn't too happy about it. He got all happy and excited and wanted to sit by himself next to the window once were in the warm car.
Waiting to pull out of the station.
The whole ride was about 45 minutes long. On the way up the canyon we heard spooky stories over the speaker and there were some displays set up outside. On the way back there were some spooky passengers that would come up and down the aisles. Poor Brecken was a little freaked out by them. I hoped we didn't petrify the little guy on his birthday. When it was all done he said he liked it and wanted to do it again. Caden was a teeny bit spooked but mostly just had a blast.
He loved this cowboy, especially the gun. The cowboy was nice enough to trade his gun for Caden's glow stick sword for a few minutes.
Here the boys are in front of the train. It was such a fun night. I love seeing the boys get so excited and thrilled about something new. That is what made the night so exciting and special for me!
