Bunk Beds, Take II

Early this year we bought the boys a metal bunkbed off of the classifieds. It wasn't the nicest ever but it would do (or so we thought). A couple of months ago a tiny little metal piece just busted off. It was the piece that holds the top bunk to the frame. A neighbor was going to weld it back together for us but in the mean time the other 3 pieces snapped and we decided to junk the whole thing.

We finally had the funds and decided to purchase a new one. The best deal I could locate was at Ikea. Brans' Dad met up with him at Ikea on a Thurs. night so he could haul it to our house in his truck. The boys were so excited to finally have a bunk bed again. We opened the box and saw a pile of unfinished wood. So, I ran up to Wal-Mart and bought a can of stain. It was about 10pm by the time I got home so we decided I would stain it the next day.
He are the boys ready to get to work the next morning. We got all ready, put the baby down for a nap, and headed out to the garage. The boys helping me stain lasted about 30 seconds. The stain was being dribbled all over leaving messy puddles on the wood. So I stained for two hours, let it dry for two hours, flipped it, stained and let it dry. When Brans got home we started with a coat of polyurethane. Sat. we finished up the last coat and it took all day to dry.

At about 7pm we began construction. The boys were watching a movie and Lana was happily rolling around the materials.

Lana ended up with her feet on the pile of wood and loved it because of the sound it made when she kicked it.
Branson was our super duper builder, he did a great job putting it together with a little assistance from me and Caden on the side.

At 10 pm it was complete, phew. And the boys were so ready to try it out. We love our new bunk bed, it's much more sturdy and pleasing to look upon.
